Chris originally qualified as a physiotherapist and worked in private practice and with various sports teams for over 10 years prior to becoming an academic. He gained his Masters in Sports Physiotherapy from the University of South Australia in 1995 and his PhD from Auckland University of Technology in 2012. Chris is currently a senior lecturer in the School of Sport and Recreation and a member of the Sports Performance Research Institute NZ where he works with the Sport Injury Prevention group. The current focus of his research interest is prevention of sports injuries in youth with a focus on lower extremity overuse injuries. Chris has several journal publications in these areas, he is the editor of the New Zealand Journal of Sports Medicine and is on the international advisory board for Physical Therapy in Sport. Chris maintains his links to industry as a consultant to the AUT Running Mechanics Clinic and he is also on the national executive of Sports Medicine New Zealand

With my background as a Sports Physiotherapist my research is primarily in the field of sports injury prevention with a focus on lower extremity overuse injuries and youth sport. I am an applied researcher doing research to inform practitioners involved in sports injury prevention and inform the wider healthy engagement of youth in sport. I actively seek research collaborations with industry partners -current or previous collaborators include Netball New Zealand, New Zealand Football, New Zealand Rugby and the New Zealand Breakers (Basketball).
