Biography

Since completing his Masters at AUT researching the physiological aspects of surfing, Olly obtained a role at the Hurley Surfing Australia High Performance Centre as lead exercise physiologist (2013-2016). During this time he completed his PhD researching surfing performance enhancement and worked with professional surfers competing on the World Championship.

Olly now works for the Aktive Pathway to Podium programme as a strength and conditioning coach working with over 20 athletes from a range of sports. He also works with New Zealand representative surfers on the World Qualification Series as a strength and conditioning coach and high performance lead for Surfing New Zealand.

As well as coaching, Olly’s role within AUT SPRINZ is as a research fellow where he is investigating if virtual reality technology can be effectively used to assist in developing skill acquisition and improving sensorimotor skills in surf athletes.
